Goals
Nowadays, the world of construction needs professionals with a great capacity to give an answer to its fast evolution and diversification. Within this framework, where several areas of knowledge and professional profiles intermingle, the Building Engineer becomes a fully trained and versatile figure that satisfies the new needs of our society.
The main goal of the
Training comprises a wide range of subjects that go from management and execution to design, functional renovation and energetic maintenance, materials, alternative technologies, safety, health and the environment.
Structure
The
From the best academic methodologies, starting with a real case (Project-based Learning) and that the project should integrate other knowledge (Integrated Project), students are exposed to the multiple scales of their future work as professionals.
In each year, the complexity of the projects to be developed increases and also their scale. The first year is devoted to what is known as support: the necessary structure for a construction to be solid, by studying the basic structural elements and the formation of volumes.
In the second year, the project focuses on surrounds, the building’s skin, by studying the generation of its surfaces and the application of linings which defined both its image and function with respect to the climate outside.
The third year is devoted to flows, this concept including all of the installations that a building must have, but also studying how to include all of the agents intervening in the construction and building sector in a single action.
The fourth year is devoted entirely to the professional area and research. The first area serves to prepare future graduates for going on to the market. Then, the second area is useful for research in direct contact with the industrial framework, to achieve new technical and formal solutions and adapting to the requirements of sustainability and globalisation which each society needs on our planet.
The axis of the four years is the “Project”, a project which includes different subjects and appears each term in each year to give students strengthened technical knowledge for their ”skill” to add that to the needs of the changing environment in which we live.
Finally, in 2010-2011 the cycle of talks will continue on the subject of climatic change and construction, and there will be a monthly programme of visits to sites and important buildings in our surroundings.
Options
The optional subjects are presented in five training profiles belonging to the qualification:
- Management
- Design
- Sustainability
- Materials
- New Technologies
The following table shows the modules of the training itinerary making up each of the training profiles. For students to be able to acquire the Training Profile, they must study two of the training itinerary modules assigned to each Training Profile.
The training itinerary modules making up the different training profiles also respond to the conclusions and needs detected by the model of competencies and knowledge of the professional profiles of the building process and by the White Book of the Degree in
